Let's say this man comes home glad but his girlfriend starts abusing him and hitting him with kitchen appliances (frying pans, spatulas etc..) and cuts the cables to phones locks the doors who know the girl does anything to keep it secret and so the man gets beaten down by his GF for about 10 minutes and he's had enough so he pushes her to try to escape but when she falls she breaks her neck and she's knocked unconscious. The man is very sorry.
But due to the act of self defence he TRIED to escape but couldn't.
Who's at more fault and should receive more punishment [The Boy or Girl?]
Let's say he jsut came home from a war too and when he pushed her he unlocked the doors and ran.
But apologized in the courts.

I'm 13 years old and I'm writing a book for fun. My character just inherited an old abandoned farmhouse and she wants to renovate it. How much do you think it would cost in the end to fix everything? And what would need to be done to make it liveable? Here's a few paragraphs about it:
Kathryn O’Reilly’s green eyes scanned her new bedroom. It was old, and showed definite signs of abandonment. The ugly yellow paint behind the piles of moving boxes was chipping off the walls, wide, long cracks were forming on the ceiling, and the disgusting carpet had a big array of unidentifiable stains. The aged, green window shutters looked like they were more fitting for an old haunted home rather than an abandoned farmhouse, and she suspected that if she tried to close them they would most likely fall off into the bushes below. The room, as well as the relax of the home, smelled mouldy and wet.
She left the bedroom and sauntered down the cramped corridor to the kitchen. It had no appliances, just a few cupboards with the doors falling off its rusty hinges, and a long countertop made of cracked tiles and damaged wood. Like the bedroom, the kitchen ceiling had many narrow cracks. The hardwood floor was somewhat dented, with a few planks protruding out of the otherwise decent floor.
She then opened the door leading into the living room. It was a decent size, with ceiling cracks and old flooring quite similar to that of the kitchen. She meandered over to the decrepit fireplace and inspected the inside. The bottom of it had a layer of ashes dating back to who-knows-when, and besides a few chips in the bricks and rock mantle, it was in good enough shape. It had 3 big ceiling-to-floor windows looking out over the deserted landscape, which consisted of yellow and green grass, big black ash and apple trees, and a narrow gravel road at the end of the long, winding steer way. There were no neighbours for miles. Just the way she liked it.
Thanks in advance!

My OH went round to look his kids and his ex wife who he is currently divorcing has moved out the home and taken his kids to Scotland from their home in England without telling him. although she is refusing to talk with him she did text and say they had only gone for a holiday but she has taken every the kitchen appliances, dishes, some furniture and every the clothes. Does he have any rights with this? There is no paperwork in place about who has custody but obviously it looks as though she is not planning to arrive back as every her family is in Scotland. Do fathers have a right to not allow the kids to be taken away like this? It just seems so wrong but we're not sure of his rights. any help is greatly appreciate but sensible answers only please.
MAny thanks

Assuming you are starting from scratch, what are the things that you need, in your opinion? What makes up a well stocked kitchen? What would you receive first, next, and what would be on your wish list? What would you spend a good deal of money on and what would you receive at Walmart? Which appliance is your favorite, what tool can you not live without, what makes YOUR kitchen tick?
I am looking for opinions on this one, differences are natural! This should be interesting! ;)

how cheap does a home receive? whats "expensive" in home talk?
what would you guess a home with: a nice sized master bed, big/medium sized bath modern appliances bought within 5-6 years. a kitchen with a big counter space or a island with appliances bought within 5-6 years/modern. and a home with wood floors through most of it? would it be cheaper to build a home or to buy a nice home that needs a spritz of remodeling here or there? as far as remodeling how much would you think this would be (if needed):knocking out a wall or adding french doors or fixing a few cracks maybe redoing a kitchen and bath,if remodeling isn't needed, adding some puhzaz if?
is it cheaper to buy a fixer-upper and redo it?

our lease is up on a $700. 2bdrm 1040 sq ft apartment and I'm 8monthes pregnant with our second child.
our current apartment (cedar creek,76006) is a piece of junk its had every kinds of problems (leaks, mold, and now bugs) so I just can not stay here anymore!!!! everyday is like torch er but its really cheap! we have 2,000. dollars in medical bills including the soon to coming baby. we're trying to also keep 5,000. for our down payment for a really nice home. which is every workable in a year or two.
but I hate our current apartments I talked to the office and they said that they would move us to another unit but i looked at it and its just as bad if not worse!! but its so cheap and we could keep up quick!!
but I have found some adorable apartments for $870. 2 bdrm 1,101 sq ft (the bluffs at iron horse, 76180)
new apt would have filtered water jetted garden tub bigger kitchen newer appliances bay windows better side of town and its beautiful! the down sides are its more traffic to work, little smaller bedrooms.
I have looking at apartments for 3 months now and this is the best deal.everything else is a 1,000. or more for anything descent.
I just don't know what to do
is it worth it to move or should I just tough it out at the moldy and gross apartments?

My daughter is moving out, so my husband and I have decided to rent out her room and help another student in the area. The student would have full access to everything in the home, so is free to use the kitchen for cooking and every utensils, cutlery, appliances, etc. However, the kitchen is a very busy place in my household as I still have 3 kids at home, ages 14, 4, and 1. As a stay at home mom, I cook 3 full meals a day, plus snacks and I do a lot of baking.
My husband and I have decided to convert an abandoned corner of our basement into a kitchenette. The basement includes two bedrooms (my 14 year old son's and the student's), a living room (mostly used by my son), a bathroom (also shared with son), and then this kitchenette. The kitchenette will be mostly for the student, but my son is free to use it too, though he won't be storing anything in it. What would you want in a kitchenette as a student? Remember, they can arrive upstairs to use facilities, so we only need the bare minimum down there.
This is what we have so far:
tiny fridge with freezer (Extra space available in family fridges and freezers)
Microwave
Electric kettle
Coffee maker
Toaster
Blender or Magic Bullet set
a few plates, utensils, mugs, etc. Most of it is stored upstairs.
We have an extra toaster oven, but wonder if it will just take up valuable space? With a microwave and a toaster, is it really necessary?
With what we have provided (unless we're leaving something out), the student would have to arrive upstairs to cook anything on the stove, bake/broil in the oven, and wash dishes (which they are welcome to stick in the dishwasher if there is room).
What do you think? Fair? Anything we are neglecting?
We're only charging $300/month for this as we're not trying to make money - just trying to help someone out.

Hi, I am a recent Phd and am relocating from the US to Oxford, UK as a research fellow (JRF-postdoc). I have been offered free accommodation either in the residential district (Summertown) or in College and will receive a Fellow's Set (a flat comprised of bathroom, bedroom, sitting room, tiny kitchen). I am dismayed to read that Animals are forbidden in College. I am wondering if there are any flexible options--such as paying a deposit or for cleanup or whether this policy only pertains to in College flats (as opposed to Stavs). I am also reading in the same policies document that cooking is absolutely forbidden in the rooms, as is smoking, or playing guitar, and that routine checks will be made. I am a 29 year old Phd and am definitely NOT accustomed to this sort of life and for these reasons would try to seek out private lodgings. On the other hand, I am also told that I will receive a tiny kitchen with some appliances-if cooking is prohibited why provide a kitchen with a microwave?I am wondering if the document is for students in dorms and that not every policies apply to fellows (staff) in flats.
If anyone knows about these policies-cooking or pets-please please respond. Private lodgings at Oxford are uber expensive even with the fellow's salary and accommodations fund (as taxes and council taxes are very very high).
Please help.

i have a 19week old siberian husky pup. she is a good dog at times but a major pain in the butt most the time. every time i go upstairs, she will follow me. i turn around and she is not there. i go down stairs to look for her and look where she went, (stairs make creaking noises when walking on them) and she has gotten up on the counter or kitchen table, and gotten something off of it and starts chewing it on the sofa. i tried making sure everything was cleared off the cabinets and tables, but she still manages to find something even appliances! but i cannot ever catch her in the act of doing it. as soon as she hears me coming, she runs and hides playing keep away cause she knows she wasn't supposed to do it. she only does it when no one is around it seems. when we are in the same room, she tried it twice and i'd make a noisy noise, yell no, or knock her down yelling no, etc. but she is still consistent on doing it! we have an older dog 7yr old lab mix who has not once gotten up on the counter, sofa, or table to receive anything. she goes where i go so i know what she is up to. i don't know if it is because she is finally tall enough to reach them, or what. and another problem is she is always running from me or my husband. like when we are playing, she is fine, but when ever she is in trouble or does something she knows she wasn't supposed to, she'll run upstairs and below the bed, or run away, or play ring around the kitchen table. she will not arrive here for anything. even when she is not in trouble, or hasn't done anything, she still runs the other direction whenever you tell her to arrive. gets so frustrating. i'll even try getting her to arrive here in a nice, glad, voice acting every excited and she still wont. and when we are walking on a leash, she is always constantly pulling! she will be sniffing something and then every the sudden take off and jerk the hell outta my arm in another direction almost taking me down with her! no other animal, no bugs, no people, nothing she just takes off and does a super difficult jerk. also, i am still having a difficult time getting her completely potty trained. she'll be doing good for a few days no accidents or nothing, and then every of the sudden, she Just starts peeing and having accidents again. yesterday she knocked my camera down and peed on it! seems whenever she takes 1 step forward in progress, she takes 2 sometimes 3 steps back. can anyone please help? im getting desperate. sleepy of having to clean up some nice of mess that she has made.
she is not my dog, she is my husbands. he didnt do the research before he got her! he just thought they looked chilly and i arrive back from visiting family to her.

Look, I know it sucks. I'm 13 and I've never written a book before. It's just for fun. This is the first couple paragraphs. What needs to be changed? How can I make it better? Do I need better word choice? I've never been in a farmhouse, so this is just what I'm guessing it looks like. Please don't tell me something like "You shouldn't be writing about a farmhouse if you've never been in one!" because I'm sure that not every great writers have experienced what their characters have gone through either.
I just want some tips and constructive criticism.
Thanks in advance!

Do you think the gap in my cabinets looks 'old fashion'? I am considering extending them to the ceiling. Maybe even painting them an antique white. Note: I am going to put stainless steel in appliances and sink. Like contemporary and bits of rustic. I need ideas. Also I think extending them to the ceiling might be better so it wont collect any more dust

I am looking at purchasing a tiny 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom single wide mobile home, 14x70. The mobile home is 31 years old and is every original and has been mostly gutted, it needs:
- New kitchen (cabinets, appliances)
- New bathroom (tub/toilet are already there, but bathroom needs to be re-tiled etc)
- New flooring
- New drywall (entire home, including ceiling)
- New electrical
- New plumbing
- New heater (old heater was removed)
- Roof needs to be re-done
- Vinyl siding needs to be re-done
- New tiedowns needed for mobile home
Basically everything needs to be redone, except for the wood structure. So a complete re-build. My question is, considering the size of it (remember it's only 70x14), how much would this cost roughly? Just a ballpark # if I were to hire contractors to do the whole job for instance (seperated into a materials+labour cost would be great). Also is it worth doing every of this, or should I just put a new home on it? The thing is I think 31 years old is not that old and the cost of moving a new mobile home will be very expensive. Keep in mind when quoting I am looking for VERY basic items.... no special stuff. Cheap counters, white appliances (used from craigslist probably), cheap laminate flooring, no expensive fixtures. Just want it do be solid construction, doesnt need to look pretty.
Thanks

I am looking for venetian bronze or antique bronze kitchen appliances (refrigerator, dishwasher, range, etc.). NOT oil-rubbed bronze like the Jenn Air set. Does anybody know of any manufacturers that have done this yet? It seems like a odd choice NOT to manufacturer appliances in this finish since this is a very HOT finish for higher-end home accessories in bathrooms, cabinet fixtures, door handles, etc.

okay im getting married, and moving into an apartment. I am going to register and I need a little bit of advice before I do so. In the apartments, the big appliances, such as fridge, stove, and microwave, are white. However, throughout the home, I'm decorating with green, brown, and darker colors. I like the darker look. Soooo, would it look bad if I went ahead and registered for black tiny appliances, like a toaster, mixer, blender, and things like that?
And when it comes to trash cans, laundry baskets, and such, should i keep with the white or black?
I know mot people could care less, but I need every of the help I can receive. I want to start off on the right foot!

I'm considering buying an older home that's below gone a complete remodel this year. It has new tile, carpet, wood blinds, counter tops in kitchen and bat, toilets, appliances, garage door opener, sinks, new ac and coil replacement, and 30-yr roof installed this year. However, this home was built in the 70s and I'm concerned about the structure and possible future maintenance that may arrive from owning an older home.
I don't I want my first home to be a fixer upper but I do want to receive the most for my money.
Should I consider purchasing an older home with several upgrades or a home built recently? If you're in the real estate field, your professional opinion would be appreciated. Thanks.

hes been to the vets and had his first injections and been over-every checked.
the vet said that hes a very perfect and healthy kitty.
but when he came home he started being really drowsy/sleepy.
i nipped out to the store and when i got back he'd climbed the worktop and managed to hide behind the kitchen appliances. he was crying his little eys out (hes siamese so hes always meowing, but this was alot).
when i got him, he was really floppy and lethargic. he couldnt walk so i initially thought hed broken his leg, but then realised he moved away from me touching the area he was injected, so im guessing hes tender from his injection.
he started dropping off (into a snooze) and i paniced and kept waking him up again incase i was going to lose him. i cant call the vet and i cant access an emergency vet until tomorrow morning.
although he is acting silly he often purrs and 'wags' his tail like crazy. im also not sure if it applies, but his nose is slightly dry, although not greatly dryer than usual.
is this a normal reaction? i know the side effects are rare but im wondering if hes hurt himself climbing up the worktop (which he never does!). i know i should look out for swelling, and as of yet there is none.
any helpful answers are greatly appreciated, i am so worried :(

I just moved into a nice place. It has every stainless steel appliances in the kitchen and on craigslist she wrote stainless steel appliances. (In my mind that is an advertisement that she must abide by). After I moved in I noticed that the oven was not working. The landlord ended up replacing it with the cheapest oven that she could find and EVEN WORSE it's WHITE!!! I doesn't match anything in the Kitchen - not even the hood that's right over it which is also stainless steel.
I feel like I'm not asking for much. The oven that was originally in the kitchen was REALLY nice. She could buy the cheapest stainless steel oven and I would be fine with it - as long as it matches the other things in the kitchen....
My Question is LEGALLY speaking, am I entitled to a stainless steel oven at minimum? (I live in California if that matters)
My argument would be that I should be entitled to the stainless steel because it is indirectly included in Rent. If you had two identical places -one with crappy mismatching appliances and one with really nice appliances, you would pay more for the place with the nicer appliances. Therefore I think that the landlord should at least be required to maintain the appearance.
Thoughts????
Response to Wildcat:
If I were renting a place that was a piece of crap and had cheap rent I could care less what the appliances look like. Fact is that I'm paying over 2,000 a month for a tiny 1 br. Why is it so expense? - Because it is a nice place and the interior is also very nice. For that price per month I would think that the landlord would have to have some sort of standards when it comes to replacing the appliances. Just sayin'.

I have cherry cabinets. I think their ok but my husband thinks they look 'cheap'. I have lived in this home for three years and I can agree that there is some slight fading on the stain from wiping them over the years (I only use little water no chemicals to clean them). Anyway my cousin made custom cabinets she painted and they are beautiful! I adore the open feeling that antique white gives. In the pic they look good, but she said she put a mocha glaze on it.
My husband says he can do it himself, strip the stain and repaint them white, but I am nervous to do that. I am afraid I am going to make my kitchen look cheap. Here is a pic of my kitchen. I plan to paint the walls a light coffee neutral paint color, put crown molding up, receive a stainless sink and stainless appliances:
http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu153/jaymers27_bucket/mykit.jpg
Here is a pic of the white look I think looks 'classy':

I cant find pics of 'cheap' looking white painted cabinets but I have seen them before on those home network channels.
If any of you have painted your cabinets by yourself, please let me know how it turned out. If you some pics of your kitchen that would be great too.
Thanks!

I bought a HUD home for $75k, neighboring houses sell for 140's. I have to live in it for 1 yr. I'm using an FHA loan @ 5% fixed for 30yrs. I want to sell it in about 2 yrs. Can I put my home up for sale around 155K with a $10k incentive for the buyer? I was thinking I could profit $70k in about 2 yrs. I'm just not sure if it would be known that i purchased the home for $75k. And if so, would it be harder to sell in the market the neighboring houses sell for? Houses around me are 3b/2bath- mines a 4br/3 full bath with a lot more land than most of the neighborhood homes. So I have an oven that hasn't worked for almost a year now, it just stopped working by itself. The timer and the oven would not work but the stove top was still working so i never got to getting a new oven. Last weekend i went for a little vacation trip and while i was at the trip a thunderstorm hit the area where my home is, so when i got home every my electronics were every messed up and stuff like you know when black outs happen. I go to the kitchen and i notice that my oven timer was on and blinking, so i thought hey is the oven working?! So i turned it on and to my surprise it was working again. Can thunderstorms do these kinds of things to electronics/appliances?

I bought a new kitchen inclusive of oven and hob (homark 02-700401) over a year ago and stored it a spare room until I was able to fit it.
I finally got round to putting it in a couple of months ago and tried it out, albeit very briefly and every seemed ok. Since then I have had a new Protek Supra range ip40 RCD consumer unit installed and on trying the oven thereafter the RCD tripped after about 1 minute either when on oven or grill. On resetting and trying again it came on for maybe 40 seconds and then tripped again and the cycle continued. The electrician who fitted the consumer unit told me that it would be the appliance that was at fault and to seek appliance advice.
On looking around the web i found an article which indicated that the elements may be wet and that if one were to persevere and receive some heat through, on drying out the problem may be solved. I kept on trying to no avail, then unwired the cooker from the mains and connected it instead to a normal extension guide and plugged the cooker on via a socket on another circuit. With perseverence the cooker and the oven both eventually came on and stayed on for 20 mins or so until switched off. I then connected the cooker back to its original circuit on the cooker rcd and found myself back at square one....tripping immediately. I disconnected it again and put it back on the extension guide, plugged it in a normal wall socket again, which worked fine before and this time it just started tripping again.
A mate of mine took the cooker to his home (non RCD) and it blew his fuse immediately. Up until this point I felt sure the fault must have been with the consumer unit as opposed to the cooker itself. I really would appreciate any advice that any one can offer.
I rang a few appliance repairers and most say the elements have gone, but if this were the case then why did it work so well for the period I had it on?
Further to the last point (Keith B) it was tested on 30amp.
PS Thanks to everyone for their time and trouble taken in responding

the place that i want to rent has outdated kitchen appliances.
what if i put these in storage and buy myself new, stainless-steel appliances in place.
then right before i move out, i put switch them.
would this be okay?
l know people say that if you make upgrades in the apartment the landlord can pay the rent. But the landlord is not here, only the super.
PS> rude people: keep your breath and don't answer.

I adore warm colors like red, but i have a tiny kitchen and I want to make sure that if i paint the cubbords red and receive red appliances, it won't make it look even smaller.
Thank you for any and every help.

Ok, my kitchen is outdated big time. And it's in an apartment so I can't just redo the whole thing.
Tiny, outdated (apliances [fridge, washer, stove] are a eggshell like color, and design is old.), etc
The cabnets are the most discusting shade of eggshell. I would like to repaint the cabnets another color, but it unfortunetly has to match the appliances.
What color should i paint the cubbords?
or can I paint the appliances too? you know so I can do a more "pretty" color..and if so which color??? PLEASE HELP!!!

I am in the middle of remodeling my kitchen. we are painting the cabinets black, with stainless steel appliances. We have had Quartz counter tops installed in the color Diana Pearl. Here is a link to view the color

My question is I really am stuck on my back splash, Any travertine I find has a gold color in it and that just doesn't go in my opinion with every the silver we have. I would really like to incorporate a little color with the back splash (or a lot)...the only color I really like is blue...sometimes green. Please if anyone has this counter top with a back splash and would send pics that would be great or has any suggestions!!! Thanks!!!
in person there is actually no gold...sorry if the pic shows that, but it is the best pic i could find :-)

We live in an apartment so we have some furniture (living room, bed room, kitchen, etc.) We furnished the apartment ourselves.
Here are some things we need:
Blinds
Big appliances (fridge, stove, washer, dryer, etc.)
Lawn mower
What else should we consider for our first home?
Last question, where would I find good value blinds at a low cost?

I sometimes tend to receive carried away when it comes to explaining things and I'm afraid this passage explaining this girl's new home is too long/boring. Do you think it goes on for too long or does it sound ok?
“I’ll be right back,” said Hayley. She made her way to the home and walked through the front door. The inside was completely dark and she fumbled for a light switch. After a moment, her hand touched a switch and the lights flickered on. She was standing in an empty room that looked like it would be the front room. It broke off into the kitchen where only a long counter divided the two. The kitchen was clearly renovated with new appliances and cabinets and the light, wooden walls and flooring seemed aged.
From the living room, a flight of stairs sat on the side of the wall. They, too, were made of wood and Hayley was a little wary as she walked up them. If the wood was too old, it could give in to her weight. It seemed sturdy enough, though, and she picked up her pace. Despite her worries about the move, she was a little eager to look her bedroom.
The stairs led her to a wide hallway where three doors stood. With further investigation, Hayley realized that two of the doors led to the bedrooms and one to a tiny bathroom. She didn’t linger in the hallway for long, though. The tiny staircase that led to the attic at the end of the hallway held her attention. She pushed the old, wooden door open and stepped inside.
The rectangular attic was tiny but manageable. It was completely empty like the relax of the home, leaving it looking like a wooden box. The ceiling was shaped like an A, though, and Hayley liked the structure. A medium sized window stood on the opposite wall from where she stood and, as she approached it, she realized it was the window that overlooked the driveway where her mom and brother stood.

i checked the breaker box and nothing was tripped. i tried resetting them and it didn't help. the light switch in the kitchen doesnt work but the trash disposal on the same outlet works, both outlets in the kitchen and the fan/light over stove doesnt work but relax of appliances work. one light switch in the living room, an outlet in the bedroom, and everything in the bathroom stopped working.

Gfci on every the outlets. So this is a shared circuit--I've powered every other outlet w either the red or the blk wire and shared the neutral. I've wired every the wires into the LINE side. In the second to last box, the bkl is wired into the outlet, the red passes thru (but didn't pass thru LOAD side, just capped). The red powers the last outlet. But I don't know where to put the blk in the last gfci outlet. Right now I have capped that blk in both the 2nd to last and last boxes, which makes it work like I've finished with a 12/2 cable. There is pwr to every of the outlets but nothing powers off of it...tried coffee pot and drill. Help! What am I doing wrong...think 2 parallel 12/2 cables woulda been easier but wall in now.

My fiance and I want to build a home when we receive the money. We want a basement, and we want the home to be two stories over that. We want 3 bedrooms, 1 master bedroom, 1 family room, and 2 bathrooms on the top floor, one of which we want to connect to the master bedroom. On the bottom floor, we want a decent sized kitchen, a dining room, living room, a study, and one bathroom. We also want a 3 car garage. AND we would like at the very least to have 3 acres of land not including the amount of land where the home will go. How much money would that run us for the BASIC design...not including paint, appliances, fireplaces etc...
